The Space Coast is home to premier surf spots, international surfing events.
Brevard's surfing status continues to surge.
Brevard County has some of the premier surfing spots on the East Coast.
Among professional surfers who first got their feet wet along the Space Coast are former world champion C.J. Hobgood and Damien Hobgood of Satellite Beach, and eight-time world champion Kelly Slater of Cocoa Beach.
Evidence of the area's surfing boom took place in January 2005 at Sebastian Inlet, when the $75,000 Sebastian Inlet Pro presented by Ron Jon featured 224 of the greatest international surfers, including Slater and three-time world champion Tom Curren. Among the area's other top annual events are the Easter Surfing Festival, the National Kidney Foundation Labor Day Surfing Festival and the $10,000 Sean Slater Invitational, which is part of the World Skin Cancer Foundation Fall Classic.
Numerous surf shops stretch along the Space Coast with an abundance of boards and other equipment.
